Maybe the most impressive structure at the harbor, a fortress that is left from the old city walls. You can easily see how it protected the old city from attacks from the sea. Very thick walls.Full review by Thomas V

Part of the walls that are around the city. Since this has been the port for Rome, this city was always fortified, and you see the evidence here.Full review by Thomas V

The fortress is sadly not open to visitors, you can peek in through the gates and walk around the exterior. The walk along the promenade is worth doing, go past the station and there are several nice sea front bars near the pier. We also enjoyed ambling around the streets of the town - we were on a cruise and did not want to take tours to Rome which cost a fortune and gave you only a glimpse of the city.
