How many miles if walking?

It's a small estate. I estimate less than a mile in total on all the paths. Be sure to book tickets in advance.

Sorry it took me so long to answer your question. There are some benches along the way, but the tour moves steadily and there is a lot of standing. For time to time the docent will stop to discuss a particular section and there is not always a place to sit when this happens. If you were considering a wheelchair the ground can be uneven with steps up and down. Hope this hasn't been too discouraging as the gardens are truly beautiful.

GenXMommy above is exactly right and she's from Santa Barbara, so she certainly knows her stuff about this garden. All I can really tell you is that I am very happy that I paid a visit as it was the primary reason my wife and I went to SB.The garden (multiple different gardens really) is magnificent and the collateral benefit was that we also got to know a really great small coastal California city that we had never before visited.
