Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon will undergo hip surgery, an operation that will sideline him for a prolonged stretch, general manager Perry Minasian told reporters on Wednesday, calling it a 'long-term' absence.

This will be the fifth straight season that Rendon misses significant time. He has two years and $72 million left on a seven-year, $245-million deal.

Anthony Rendon, in the sixth season of a $245 million, 7-year contract, has played in just 205 games over the past four seasons and has been on the IL 12 times since 2021.
