"The Twist" star Chubby Checker was part of one era of popular music the Rock & Roll Hall of fame should ignore.

Bad Company, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol and, after decades of effort, Chubby Checker are among the performers nominated for induction in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Hall Foundation announced today.

Billy Idol, the Black Crowes and Maná will also appear on the ballot for the first time, alongside Oasis, Joe Cocker, Mariah Carey and others.

Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, The Black Crowes and Joy Division/New Order also made the list of 14 performer nominees.

Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast and Phish are some the 2025 nominees for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a list that also includes two sets of musical brothers who have had public feuds and recent reunions — the Black Crowes and Oasis.

Cyndi Lauper, whose two biggest hits were written with Philadelphians, is also nominated, along with OutKast, the White Stripes, Mariah Carey, the Black Crowes, and more.

CLEVELAND — Fourteen artists and groups have been named as nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025. The list of 14 performer nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2025 includes eight candidates who appear on the institution’s ballot for the first time — including some surprises that range from the previously overlooked “Twist” popularizer Chubby Checker to the Latin rock group Maná to the jam band Phish.
