According to USA Today's Power Outage Tracker, there are a total of 48,997 outages in over 60 counties as of 8:16 a.m., with the most outages being in Glynn County, a coastal region in southeastern Georgia.

Several thousand power outages have been reported in Southeast Georgia after a rare winter storm blanketed the area in snow and ice.

WAYCROSS, Ga. – The rare winter wonderland in Southeast Georgia continued Wednesday morning after snow began to fall Tuesday night in Waycross. The conditions made traveling on roads hazardous and icy patches forced authorities to close all lanes of I-95 southbound at St. Marys Road (County Road 61).

Frozen precipitation is rare in Georgia, even more so in the southern part of the state, and conditions could be similar to 2014’s “Snowmageddon,” Gov. Brian Kemp said at a news conference Tuesday.

Georgia Power says, between Brunswick and St. Simons Island, more than 10,000 power outages were reported among its customers in Glynn County, alone.

Dozens of power outages impacted thousands of residents early Saturday in the Augusta area following a winter storm that passed over the CSRA on Friday.

Georgia has seen at least one death due to the latest winter weather, a state official announced Tuesday. The critical needs patient got outside Monday night and died of hypothermia, Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency Director Chris Stallings explained.

Brian Kemp and other state officials are warning metro Atlanta residents to stay off the road on Tuesday due to winter weather. State officials said to stay off the roads starting at noon. They added that people should stay at their destination for the next few days.
