With Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass delaying the city’s plans to remove all checkpoints for access to Pacific Palisades along Pacific Coast Highway until Monday, visitors were still stopped at multiple sites heading into the fire-ravaged community on Sunday. A county supervisor expressed frustration, declaring the move a last-minute surprise.

After Pacific Palisades residents expressed concerns that their neighborhoods will be open to the public, Mayor Karen Bass on Saturday announced that law enforcement checkpoints will remain in place.

The planned reopening of Pacific Coast Highway in the Palisades Fire burn zone has been postponed, and checkpoints in the area will remain in place.

NBC News reports that the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection declared the Palisades and Eaton Fires as 100% contained on Friday. Both fires broke out on Jan. 7 and combined burned more than 37,000 acres across Los Angeles County.
