An inmate at the city jail died Monday after suffering a medical emergency, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies responded around 7 a.m. to a cell where a man had collapsed, according to a release from the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office.

A man died after suffering an apparent medical emergency inside the Norfolk City Jail Monday morning, according to the city’s sheriff’s office.

Deputies with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office are investigating after an inmate’s death. According to officials, on Feb. 3 around 7 a.m., deputies responded after a male inmate “suddenly collapsed” while in his cell.
