Officials on Thursday announced charges against the suspect in last week's fatal shooting of 9-year-old Yasin Morrison in Newark.

Yasin Morrison was killed last Friday when he was struck by a bullet fired from a great distance, prosecutors said on Thursday. CBS News New York's Christine Sloan reports.

The man who was arrested, Jesse J. Dunbar II, also faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The office said he was “also charged with shooting an adult male,” but did not say whether that referred to the 36-year-old.

NEWARK — Officials have made an arrest in connection with the tragic death of a 9-year-old boy. According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, Newark resident Jesse J. Dunbar II has been charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses tied to the incident in Newark's South Ward on Jan. 31.

Jesse Dunbarr, 36, is now facing first-degree murder charges in the death of 9-year-old Yasin Morrison. The child's grandparents say Friday evening, their son was dropping Yasin and his 3-year-old sister off at their house on Osborne Terrace to spend the weekend.
