Monty the giant schnauzer has won the top prize at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in New York City. The dog was named best in show after missing out in the previous two years at the most prestigious US canine competition, leaving handler and co-owner Katie Bernardin almost too emotional to speak.

Monty's competition included a bichon frisé called Neal, a Skye terrier named Archer, a whippet and repeat runner-up known as Bourbon and a shih tzu called Comet who's been a finalist before.

A giant schnauzer named Monty was crowned Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show on Tuesday, the most prestigious dog show in the US. After reaching the final three years in a row, Monty beat more than 2,500 canines to become the first giant schnauzer to take home the show's top prize.

Monday kicked off the first day of judging to find the seven dogs that will ultimately compete for Best in Show at the 2025 WKC Dog Show.
