State officials are advising New Yorkers not to be fooled by a multistate text messaging scam alleging motorists have unpaid E-ZPass tolls and are at risk of "excessive late fees" unless they click on a fraudulent link.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD is alerting Staten Island residents to a text message scam targeting unsuspecting victims. As detailed by the NYPD, scammers are attempting to deceive victims into clicking a link by impersonating well-known agencies and companies such as E-ZPass and Amazon.
