The nearly 3,500-year-old tomb belonged to King Thutmose II, who reigned from 1493 to 1479 BC A British-Egyptian team of archeologists has discovered the first pharaoh's tomb since King Tutankhamun's was found more than 100 years ago in 1922.

The ministry of antiquities said the discovery of the tomb of Thutmose II, whose wife, Hatshepsut, took the throne after his death, was the first excavation of a royal tomb near the Valley of the Kings since 1922.

The tomb of Thutmose II, who ruled about 3,500 years ago, was discovered by an Egyptian-British team near the Valley of the Kings.
