Irish teenager Michael Noonan had a debut to remember for Shamrock Rovers. The 16-year-old forward became what his team said was the youngest-ever goalscorer in European club competition.

Shamrock Rovers’s Michael Noonan became the youngest scorer in the Conference League’s history and second youngest in a UEFA club competition aged 16 years and 197 days old following Thursday’s goal against Molde.

Noonan scored the only goal in a famous 1-0 win to become the second youngest scorer in the history of European club competition. He also showed a rapid turn of pace and slick touch to draw a foul from Valdemar Lund, which led to a straight red card for the Molde defender three minutes before half-time.

The 16-year-old forward became the second-youngest goalscorer in European club competition, and the youngest ever in Conference League play when he netted the winner for Rovers in a 1-0 first-leg playoff victory over Molde.
