Golf fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Tiger Woods play. The 15-time major champion abruptly withdrew from the Genesis Invitational this week, saying that he was still processing the death of his mother and isn’t ready to play. Kultida Woods died unexpectedly at the age of 80 on Feb. 4.

After originally committing to the field at Torrey Pines, Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the 2025 Genesis Invitational, the event he has hosted in California since 2020. The 15-time major champion posted on social media that he tried his best to prepare for the tournament but is still processing the death of his mother.

Woods, the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational, said he hoped to be at Torrey Pines later in the week and “appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing.”

The PGA Tour returns to the cliffs of La Jolla, California, this week for the 2025 Genesis Invitational. Traveling to San Diego once again, the PGA Tour elected to move the third signature event of the season typically held at Riviera Country Club to the South Course at Torrey Pines due to the Los Angeles wildfires.

It's also disappointing that The Genesis was set to be the stage of Tiger Woods' return to the PGA Tour. It was announced late last week that Tiger, who also serves as the tournament's host, was ready to tee it up for the first time in an official event since The Open Championship last July.
