An American Airlines employee was killed during an accident on the tarmac at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, officials say.

The four flight crew members of a passenger jet that collided with an Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport Wednesday were based out of Charlotte, American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said in a video update Thursday afternoon.

According to Charlotte-Douglas officials, an American Airlines employee died around 9:30AM on Monday. Wilmington native, Kevin Ullman, watched the tragedy unfold from his seat. He says the luggage cart was backing up and the victim may have been in a blind spot for the driver.
