West Australian 21-year-old Cooper Connolly will make his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle on Thursday. Sources have confirmed to The West Australian the Scarborough tyro will play just his fifth first-class match in the second Test of the series.

Australia expected the wicket in Galle to turn more than it did on day one after the tourists boldly chose to omit frontline spinner Todd Murphy for debutant all-rounder Cooper Connolly in what assistant coach Daniel Vettori labelled an “incredibly tough call.
