Kansas State was at the low point of the season during a six-game losing streak but coach Jerome Tang made sure to keep everyone positive. After snapping the skid Saturday against West Virginia, Tang explained how he kept the team together.

Coach Jerome Tang has added a mid-season transfer to the Kansas State men’s basketball roster. Tyreek Smith, a 6-foot-6 senior guard who previously played at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State and SMU and Memphis, has enrolled at K-State in time for the start of the spring semester.

As the Kansas Jayhawks gear up to face in-state rival Kansas State in Saturday’s Sunflower Showdown, Wildcats head coach Jerome Tang didn’t hold back on his respect for the Jayhawks’ defensive intensity.

K-State relied heavily on freshman point guard David Castillo and junior-college transfer Mobi Ikegwuruka during a narrow loss against Texas Tech earlier this week. Tang sent a message in the process: He is ready to build for the future with young players who display maximum effort when they are on the court.

Smith will not play this season. However, he will be eligible to practice and travel with the team. He will seek a waiver to play his final season of eligibility at K-State in 2025-26. He was among the student-athletes who played during the 2020-21 athletic season and thus received the extra season of eligibility from the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Baylor coach Scott Drew, whom Jerome Tang worked with for years, gave him some words of encouragement amidst the Wildcats' 7-11 start.
