Stephen Maguire will play Mark Selby in Sunday's Welsh Open final after beating Ali Carter 6-4 in Llandudno. Maguire, who has dropped to 49 in the world rankings, came through an intense and sometimes scrappy battle to reach his first ranking title final in five years.

Mark Selby beat Luca Brecel 6-3 to book his place in the final of the Welsh Open. The 2008 winner had edged John Higgins 5-4 in a cagey quarter-final, but showed his intent with a 131 break in the opening frame of the semi-final.

The Welsh Open was temporarily halted on Saturday, with Luca Brecel struggling with a migraine during his clash with Mark Selby. Both men are currently in the semi-finals of the tournament, with Ali Carter and Stephen Maguire also in the last four.
