South Korean budget carrier Air Busan has become the world’s first airline to ban portable chargers from overhead bins. The policy change comes after a fire — suspected to have been caused by a lithium battery — severely damaged one of its passenger jets.

South Korea's Air Busan will not allow passengers to keep power banks in luggage stored in overhead cabin bins, in what on Tuesday it called a preemptive measure after one of its planes was engulfed in flames last week.

Transport ministry also prohibits passengers from storing portable batteries and e-cigarettes in overhead cabin bins.
