A boil water notice that was issued for several islands in Casco Bay, including Peaks, after a water main break on Little Diamond Island was lifted Thursday morning. The Water District issued a release saying tests showed the tap water was now safe to drink without first boiling it.

Hoboken residents should be careful and not drink tap water without boiling it on Tuesday, officials say. The reason? A boil water advisory has been issued for Hoboken due to fluctuations in water pressure caused by efforts to stabilize service after a water main break at 18th Street & Jersey Avenue in Jersey City.

Boil water advisories can happen because of water main breaks, equipment outages or planned maintenance or expansion. The intention is to make sure no one is drinking water out of the tap that might not be safe.
