Maine Mall shooting suspect appears in court after turning himself in to South Portland police
South Portland Police Chief Dan Ahern said that at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, Portland Regional Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting a shooting that happened near the mall’s food court. Responding officers entered the Maine Mall food court and found a man in his late 20s suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper leg.

Prosecutors say the suspected shooter then went back into the bathroom, giving mall security guards time to pull the victim to safety. Police say Awad was then seen leaving the mall before turning himself in the following night. The prosecution asked for a $100,000 cash bail.
