Shamrock Rovers suffered a heart-breaking end to their UEFA Conference League adventure as they were beaten by Molde following a penalty shoot-out at Tallaght Stadium.

In the end, Shamrock Rovers ' veteran striker Aaron Greene underhit his penalty to invite Molde substitute Eirik Hestad score the deciding spot kick on an agonising night in Tallaght.

Aaron Greene, hitting Rovers' third penalty, was the only player to miss from the spot in the shootout after Molde had survived the entirety of extra time with 10-men following Isak Amundsen's red card. Magnus Wolff Eikrem scored the only goal of the game for the visitors to Dublin with the tie finishing 1-1 on aggregate.

Shamrock Rovers will aim to create even more history this evening when they take on Norwegian side Molde for a place in the Uefa Conference League round of 16.

The Irish side also had two penalty shouts waved away, both of them correctly, and they couldn’t make their numerical advantage count when Molde, as they had last Thursday, lost a man to a red card, this one after 90 minutes.
