Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott's office responded Thursday to news that his state's second-largest police department was not working with federal immigration enforcement agents, saying local officials should be complying.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) has begun hosting a series of outreach meetings to inform immigrant communities that the agency will not take part in any deportation raids or arrests currently being carried out by the Trump administration.

A coalition of immigrant activists calling itself 'the Community Self-Defense Coalition' says it will alert the community to ICE agents.

Calls to the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project for legal assistance and other help are up 37% since the organization started tracking in August.

Several law enforcement officials are believed to have received the memo last week and FBI agents have also been ordered to play a part in the raids, the report adds. The dates on which the raids would go ahead have not been revealed.
