President Donald Trump has quickly mobilized wide swaths of the federal government to arrest and detain undocumented immigrants in the United States, part of a broader strategy to amass a large enforcement machine.

The announcement came a day after the U.S. secured the release of six hostages from the South American country.

Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans have fled the country’s economic conditions and repression in recent years.
