The wreckage of a Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into a plane above the Potomac River has been recovered from the water. Footage captured by the National Transportation Safety Board shows the recovery of a Sikorsky UH-60 military helicopter from the river near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on February 7.

Salvage crews have recovered the last large pieces of aircraft wreckage from the Potomac River on Thursday and are focusing on collecting small pieces from the crash site where 67 died.

Crews are expected to remove the cockpit from the American Airlines jet from the Potomac River as they continue recovery efforts from last week's fatal mid-air collision that killed 67 people.

The PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 airplane operated as American Airlines Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, to Reagan Washington National Airport and the US Army helicopter collided at 8:47 p.m. ET on January 29, 2025, killing 67 people. Prestaging operations began on January 31, and initial removal of large wreckage started February 3.
