The right side of the hatch should have an emblem saying Eco boost 4-wheel drive. If you aren't sure let your mechanic look under the car. He can tell you in a few moments.

The AWD vehicle has a PTU " power transfer unit" and is computer controlled! You can't turn it on and off. The computer sends power to each individual wheel,depending where it is needed! meaning slippage or traction.

May 16, 2014 · Once acceleration has decreased and speeds have increased, power is shifted back to the front only. Other less sophisticated systems operate with front wheel drive only until wheel slip is detected, and only then is power sent to the rears. Personally, I feel the current Escape 4wd is excellent and is indeed intelligent as advertised.
